Brief Description of Research Project

This project is for investigating experimentally the parameters that most influence the fatigue flexural performance of Carbon- and PBO-FRCM strengthened flexure-deficient  reinforced concrete (RC) beams. These parameters will be assessed by conducting experiments on FRCM strengthening to upgrade the service performance and the ultimate capacity of flexure deficient concrete beams. These beams resemble those requiring strengthening to accommodate an increase in the applied loads. The specimens will be tested to establish an optimum configuration of the strengthening technique in terms of the FRCM used and the fabric volume fraction. This project is a continuation of previous work “Repair of damaged PC girder with FRCM and FRP composites” where material characterization of PBO-FRCM was performed and results from this previous study will be used in the determination of an optimum FRCM configuration.
